If ten random Canadian adults (16 - 65 y.o. ) opened this page only 3 in 5 would have the literacy to fully comprehend it ((https://www.conferenceboard.ca/hcp/provincial/education/adlt-lowlit.aspx) but this year stats can reports 31.8 million Canadians own smart phones. UNESCO estimates that 6 billion people around the world have access to an internet connected mobile device of some sort. In 2014 a UNESCO study showed the following:
- large numbers of people (one third of study participants) read stories to children from mobile phones;Â
- females read far more on mobile devices than males (almost six times as much according to the study);Â
- both men and women read more cumulatively when they start reading on a mobile device;Â
- many neo- and semi-literate people use their mobile phones to search for text that is appropriate to their reading ability.
