Congratulations, you have found our hidden site. This site was hidden, as these suggestions do not necessarily reflect our main topic, mLearning and ELL. This site showcases mobile apps and tools that we suggest for mLearning and we would like to see what you suggest as well. As such, participation on this page is not obligatory, however we will be sharing this page as the end of the week nears.

Quizlet

Quizlet may be a common app for most teachers, however, it works like a charm….especially for ESL learners.  It can be adapted for extremely low level English language learners to those who are more proficient.  The variety of activities in one set means that learners can practice their vocabulary in a number of different ways.

Live Worksheets

This is a great website that allows you to take traditional print worksheets and convert them into interactive online activities, with self-correction.  They can also be embedded quite easily into other platforms.

East of the Rockies

This app takes your on an augmented reality journey of a young Japanese Canadian during WWII as her and her family lose their home and are interned, like so many Japanese Canadians at that time. This app is an excellent tool to have students learning the topic make a connection.

Google Expeditions

Educators can use this app to bring students on a VR or AR journey. There are over 100 experiences, such as da Vinci's Inventions (AR) and Machu Pichu (VR). The teacher can guide the students, on separate devices, directing them to specific areas.

Google Translate

Differing from its web-based counterpart, the Google Translate app has such features as AR translation, which you can take pictures of words and it will translate in real time. In addition to this, it also allows people to have a conversation in different languages, while it translates, a great tool for an educator with students who speak a different language.

Lingokids

This APP is lots of fun and very kid-friendly. My 4.5 year old daughter can navigate and learn on her own. There’s a collection of videos, songs, games and activities in the APP. Kids can learn thousands of vocabulary words from it with themes such as animals, colors, numbers…etc. to add your own text and edit me. It's easy.

Bookful

This APP has a small library of books and related games enhanced with 3D graphics and Augmented Reality (AR). It’s free to download but to get access to more than 2-3 books, parents will need to purchase individual books or a bundle. It’s best to use on larger screens like tablets, and there’s 3D mode or AR mode. It adds a lot to children’s reading experience as they can get a 360-degree view of the book’s content. This is a good APP to check out of you want to introduce your children to some exciting technology and still want to keep things educational.

Khan Academy Kids

This APP is a huge database of activities in subjects such as math, ELA, executive function, socio-emotional learning, and creative expression, and the content is appropriate from preschool up to first grade. When kids start, they meet and play with friendly animal guides. Then, activities are automatically presented according to age and past performance.  The APP is easy and fun for young kids to jump in and immerse themselves in foundational and fundamental early-learning content. Books, videos, songs, and games are high quality and make creative use of the touchscreen format.
